The Year of Challenge and Choice!

Year 9 at Korowa is truly the year of challenge and choice. It is a time of immense personal growth, discovery, and development, and we are dedicated to supporting our students every step of the way.

At Korowa, we believe that Year 9 is a pivotal year for our students’ personal growth and development. It is a time when they explore their identity, discover their passions, and build essential skills to succeed not only in their senior years but also beyond school life. As Head of Year 9, I take great pleasure in guiding our students through this transformative journey.

Rachael Quirk, Head of Year 9

Our focus in Year 9 is on nurturing confident, resilient, and bold young individuals. We want our students to become empowered, compassionate leaders who are ready to make a positive impact on the world around them. To achieve this, we provide a safe, inclusive environment where students can explore their potential through diverse and enriching programs.

Throughout the year, students are encouraged to contemplate life beyond the classroom and consider how they can create positive change. This is where we witness the emergence of the next generation of leaders and game changers. Our programs in Year 9 are designed to foster and nurture these skills, helping our students thrive and grow as individuals.

Immersive LearningExperiences

One of the highlights of Year 9 is the immersive extended program that takes place at the end of the year. Students have two exciting options to choose from:

Trek: This iconic four-week wilderness adventure has been a Korowa tradition for over 25 years. Students embark on a challenging journey, venturing by foot, bike, and raft from the Victorian Alps to Ninety Mile Beach. Trek teaches self-sufficiency, leadership, and interpersonal skills as students navigate through difficult and stressful situations.

Quest: The alternative experience is Quest, a four-week immersive program with an extended residential component. Students participate in service projects, stepping outside their comfort zones and collaborating in small teams to complete tasks while fostering a healthy community. Quest also develops self-esteem, leadership, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

As students progress through Year 9 at Korowa, they become more adaptable, collaborative, and resilient individuals, prepared for the challenges of Year 10 and beyond. They exude a quiet confidence and maturity that sets them up for success in their senior years and life beyond school.

Moreover, the co-curricular experiences offered at Korowa provide students with access to external expertise, skill acquisition, and opportunities to apply their knowledge in real-world contexts. These experiences also foster leadership, service, and kindness, which are attributes that last a lifetime.
